With what feels like the first concrete proof of the project finally moving forward, actor Will Poulter has officially been cast to play Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Warlock was first teased in a mid-credit scene in 2016's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when Ayesha (Played by Elizabeth Debicki), leader of the Sovereign race, with plans to destroy the Guardians after they stole valuable batteries from their people (which the Guardians were paid to protect from an interdimensional creature). Writer/director James Gunn originally planned to introduce Warlock more prominently in Vol. 2, but decided to give him a proper introduction in Vol. 3 given his prominence in the comics. posted on Twitter on Monday to congratulate Poulter, saying “Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter. He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks.”
Adam Warlock first appeared in the 1960's in the Marvel Comics, created in a specialized cocoon to be, effectively, the perfect human. His powers — flight, super-strength, regeneration, energy manipulation — are comprehensive and rival the most powerful Marvel characters ever created. Interestingly, Warlock's history is often tied to the Infinity Stones, especially the Soul Gem so it'll be curious if Gunn ties Warlock to the stones, despite their destruction at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame. In another popular comic book story, he transformers into a dangeous and insane creature named Magus. In other words, Warlock could be a villain OR a hero in the upcoming film.
The film is set to begin shooting later this year with a release date of May 5th, 2023. The film series' leads are all set to return including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper (as the voice of Rocket), and Vin Diesel (as the voice of Groot). Stay tuned!
