Much like what Amazon will be doing with a Halloween theme with their Welcome to Blumhouse anthology film series (See the official trailer here), the streaming service is also doing another series of films that deals with racism and discrimination. Titled the Small Axe anthology series, the films' stories will focus on the London’s West Indian community from the late 1960's through the mid 1980's and follows people whose lives have been “shaped by their own force of will despite rampant racism and discrimination”. Headlined by film director Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, Widows), the five films will be released on Amazon Prime on the following dates:
Mangrove – November 20th
Lovers Rock – November 27th
Education – December 4th
Alex Wheatle – December 11th
Red, White and Blue – December 18th
Some of these films have seen releases at films festivals with Mangrove and Lovers Rock already have been shown at both the Cannes & New York Film Festivals, while Red, White, and Blue is also showing at New York. And now, to herald the films' release on Amazon Prime, an official trailer has been released for the series. Check it out below:
