In a bizarre take on the mockumentary concept, singer St. Vincent (whose real name is Anne Clark) and her friend, comedian Carrie Brownstein, both write the script for The Nowhere Inn and star in the film as fictionalized versions of themselves. In the story, St. Vincent sets out to make a documentary about her music. However, when she hires a close friend (Brownstein) to direct, notions of reality, identity, and authenticity grow increasingly distorted and bizarre.
The result, at least according to the crazy teaser trailer, is one that makes it nearly impossible to label the film definitely in any particular genre (though it's being labelled as a "psychological thriller documentary"). Essentially though, it's a scripted film shot like a documentary. Check out the trailer below:
The Nowhere Inn co-stars Dakota Johnson. It is directed by Bill Benz and is set to be released in theaters on September 17th.
How does this garbage get made? Who pays for it? It has to be a money laundering scam of some kind.
