The synopsis for director Tom McCarthy's next film Stillwater is a simple one. A father (Played by Matt Damon) works to exonerate his estranged daughter of a murder she never committed. However, if it's at all as dense of a narrative as McCarthy's last major film, 2015's Spotlight, then audiences are in for a pretty intense character story. Especially given, the last time McCarthy did such a film, Spotlight won both the Academy Award for Best Picture and McCarthy won Best Original Screenplay. And like that film, McCarthy lends his writing talents to the script for Stillwater (alongside Marcus Hinchey, Thomas Bidegain, and Noé Debré).
This is made clear by the official trailer released today for the film. Check it out below:
Stillwater co-stars Abigail Breslin and Camille Cottin. It is set to be released in theaters on July 30th.
That's actually exactly where I live. Marseille is actually a real cutthroat city full of African immigrants, especially Algerian who are the worst of all, very violent. Not exactly the French postcard you can see in Hollywood movies usually.
