As Paramount works to expand the Star Trek universe beyond the basic shows and movies, trailers have been released today for not one, but two animated shows aimed at different age groups. The first is Paramount's newest show, Star Trek: Prodigy, which is aimed at younger audiences. It's the first Star Trek property not to focus on a Starfleet crew, but rather focuses on a group of kids who steal a starship, the U.S.S. Protostar, to get away from their home in the sticks. IN addition, the kids will be guided by a hologram of Captain Janeway., the captain from the classic live-action show Star Trek: Voyager. And yes, Kate Mulgrew returns to voice her. The show is set to premiere on Paramount+ sometime later this year. A second season has already been ordered. Check out the trailer below:
The second trailer is for the sophomore season of the more adult-oriented animated show Star Trek: Lower Decks which will continue the adventures of the "lower decks" crew members of the U.S.S. Cerritos. In addition, this season will see Jonathan Frakes making a vocal reprisal of his famed Next Generation character, William Riker. Lower Decks will return on Paramount+ on August 12th. A third season has already been ordered. Check out the trailer below:
