Courtesy of it's submission at the U.S. Copyright Office website, the official synopsis for the upcoming sequel to the surprise 2020 hit Sonic the Hedgehog (based on the popular video game series) has been released. Check it out below:
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic (Voiced by Ben Schwartz) is ready for more freedom, and Tom (Played by James Marsden) and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik (Played by Jim Carrey) comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Along with Carrey, Marsden, and Schwartz returning in-front of the camera, all the major players behind-the-camera are returning including director Jeff Fowler, screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller, and composer Tom Holkenborg (AKA Junkie XL). The first film managed an impressive $319 million on a $90 million budget and that was with it's theatrical run being cut off by the COVID-19 pandemic causing a theater shutdown. Imagine how the sequel might do when it hits theaters on April 8th, 2022. Stay tuned!
