While season 2 of The Mandalorian set-up a thrilling third season, the popular Star Wars show won't return till next year, despite the last two seasons being released around the same time for the last couple years in late-Fall/early-Winter. However, as a result of his inclusion in season 2, Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett is getting his own spin-off that will also see Ming-Na Wen returning as fan-favorite character Fennec Shand. Teased in a mid-credits scene after the emotional season 2 finale of Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett will see everyone's favorite bounty hunter seemingly returning to Tatooine (where he supposedly died in Return of the Jedi) and taking over the late-Jaba the Hutt's palace with Fennec at his side.
While Mandalorian directors like Jon Favreau, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Dave Filoni, Robert Rodiguez is directing most of the episodes of the spin-off after, at the last minute, directing the character in Mandalorian's season 2 episode "Chapter 14: The Tragedy". It was an experience Rodriguez spoke highly off and for the upcoming spin-off he seems even more excited. In a recent interview with Collider, he's spoken highly of Boba's solo series, downright calling it almost overkill in how much it delivers:
“[I] can’t say anything about [Book of Boba Fett] at all right now, but it’s coming out in December,” said Rodriguez. “Wait until you see what’s coming. It’s going to blow your mind. That’s all I can say. I can talk it up all I want because I know it over-delivers. It way over-delivers. People are going to be so pumped when they see it.”
Audiences won't find out how much it "over-delivers" until the series premieres on Disney+ in December (though no specific premiere date has been given as of yet). Stay tuned!
If it's half as good as Mando, I'm in!
My expectations are zero and yet I'm preparing for disappointment. Baby Yoda or get the fuck out.
