Much like the spectral entities who serve as the villains of the overarching narrative, the Paranormal Activity films just doesn't seem to want to die. While the found footage horror film craze died out years ago and the 2015 installment Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension being promoted as the final installment of the series, the upcoming new film, subtitled Next of Kin, is meant to serve as a "reboot" of the film series (and not a sequel to The Ghost Dimension). Though it's still keeping everything in the family, with filmmaker Christopher Landon once again writing the script for Next of Kin after writing the second, third, and fourth film along with taking on both writing and directing duties Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.
However, the film is being directed by new blood, namely William Eubank who has been often adventurous in his choice of films, namely the sci-fi films Love (2011), The Signal (2014), and Underwater (2020). And the official trailer released today seems to indicate, if anything, a complete change of setting and even time period although the plot specifics have been kept under wraps. Check it out below:
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is set to be released in theaters on October 29th as well as exclusively be released on Paramount+.
Squid Game is the best thing I've seen all year. I'm now on the lookout for more Korean kino.
