Official Trailer: "The Last Duel"

Based on the Erik Jager novel The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France, Ridley Scott's upcoming medieval film tells the tale of the last sanctioned duel in France, but the film also has several full-circle moments for many of the creative forces involved. Primarily, the film comes full circle to the filmmaker's 1977 feature directorial debut The Duellists. Much like that film, the trailer released yesterday for The Last Duel is one steeped in questions of honor in all its forms.

The story, set in 14th-century France, sees Marguerite de Thibouville (Played by Jodie Comer) claiming she's been raped by her husband's best friend. Her husband, knight Jean de Carrouges (Played by Matt Damon) challenges his friend and squire Jacques Le Gris (Played by Adam Driver), to trial by combat. The film is also noted for being the first screenplay co-written by Damon and Ben Affleck (who co-stars as Count Pierre d'Alençon) since their 1997 Oscar-winning screenplay for Good Will Hunting though Nicole Holofcener (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) is also credited as their co-writer for the new feature. Check out the official trailer below:

The Last Duel co-stars Harriet Walter, Nathaniel Parker, Sam Hazeldine, Michael McElhatton, and Alex Lawther. It is set to be released in theaters on October 15th.
