Based on Matthew Sklar's 2018 Broadway musical of the same name, Ryan Murphy's new Netflix feature The Prom is pretty much what you'd expect from the filmmaker at this point. Musical, robust in it's thematic intentions, and containing a certain pageantry he's become known for whether it's in this genre or horror or crime dramas.
This time, Murphy brings the likes of Meryl Streep into the fold where she stars as New York City stage star Dee Dee Allen who, along with co-star Barry Glickman (Played by James Corden), find their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop and their careers flatlined. However, they see an opportunity to help revise their careers, along with fellow actors Angie Dickinson (Played by Nicole Kidman) and Trent Oliver (Played by Andrew Rannells), when they decide to take a road trip to small-town Indiana to help high school student Emma Nolan (Played by Jo Ellen Pellman) find a way to attend the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Played by Ariana DeBose). In the process, they will find allies in the form of Emma's high school principal (Played by Keegan-Michael Key) and enemies in the form of the PTA head Mrs. Greene (Played by Kerry Washington) who was the one to ban Emma from attending prom with Alyssa to begin with. Along the way, the cynical performers may yet find their own selves changed.
Today, the official trailer for the film has been released. Check it out below:
The Prom is scheduled for a release on Netflix on December 11th which will coincide with a release in limited theaters sometime in the same month. Stay tuned!
Oh yeah.. I'd love to 'utilise' her as well 😉
🤷🏻♂️ Fair enough. I liked how they utilized her.
Yep, Disney cuteness and Nostalgia = fans satisfied.
Not enough for me,though.
@Rambo: LOL You have to admit, that was kind of cute. Kind of expected but cute. And I like how they connected Ahsoka to her fear of seeing someone end up like Anakin.
