Continuing his streak of acclaimed biopics as a director, following 2017's Molly's Game and 2020's The Trial of the Chicago 7, Aaron Sorkin's third directorial effort Being the Ricardos takes place over the course of a week during production of I Love Lucy, meant to be a pivotal time for lead-stars/real-life couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz who encounter a crisis that could jeopardize their careers and marriage. This idea of capturing important moments in real-life figures' lives was previously employed by Sorkin in the script for his 2015 film Steve Jobs (which was directed by Danny Boyle). And judging by the first official teaser released today, it's set to be a winning strategy again for him as a director as well.
Bringing Lucy and Desi to life, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem (respectively) look ready to deliver high-caliber-performances to capture the multiple facets of these complicated TV icons. At least, as displayed by the first official teaser released today. Check it out below:
Being the Ricardos is set to have a limited theatrical release on December 10th, followed by a streaming release on Prime Video on December 21st.
Didn't watch 2017's Molly's Game or 2020's The Trial of the Chicago 7. Probably won't watch this.
