Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been touted for some time as the big movie of Phase 4 of the MCU. Serving as a culmination of many story threads set-up in the shows WandaVision and Loki along with the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the consequences of the various actions of these heroes will come to ahead. Not only is Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) set to go head-to-head with variants of himself, but is also expected to trade blows with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) who has grown tired of being the villain for doing what people like Strange do on a regular basis.
With rumored cameos expected from a range of non-MCU interpretations of characters including Patrick Stewart as Professor X (despite his best claims to the contrary), it's appropriate that director Sam Raimi is taking the helm. With his combined experience in big-budget superhero flicks (the Spider-Man trilogy) and low-budget horror/comedy (Evil Dead, Drag Me Down to Hell), he is the perfect director to bring this action-heavy, universe-shattering nightmare to life. And he's not afraid of bringing conflict, even to the heroes as shown by the new trailer released today showing Scarlet Witch seemingly imprisoned in the Mirror Universe by Strange. Check it out below:
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. It is set to be released in theaters on May 6th.
