Netflix's "The Trial of the Chicago 7" Debuts Official Teaser Trailer

 

The Trial of the Chicago 7 was meant to be Aaron Sorkin's second big screen feature as a director, following his well-received first effort Molly's Game. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced studios to adapt which is why Paramount Pictures sold the rights of the film to Netflix where it will now premiere on October 16th. However, due to the rule changes enacted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences that accounts for these pandemic, the rule that a film must have a theatrical release to qualify has been forgoed for this upcoming award season. Therefore, the film could still go the Academy Awards.


The true story-inspired tale focuses on the riot outside the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention and the subsequent 1969 trial that followed that accused several organizers of conspiracy to incite riots and other criminal charges.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Danny Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Robbins, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, and Jeremy Strong.
