Netflix has been picking up the rights to countless film, especially in 2020 where streaming services are serving as fallback for films that can't get into theaters do to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If anyone is benefiting from that it be John David Washington. Netflix has not only picked up his black-and-white romantic drama Malcolm & Marie (For a reported $30 million!), they have today picked up a film he made in 2019 titled Born to Be Murdered which co-stars Alicia Vikander.
The film is the English-language directorial debut of Ferdinando Cito Filomarino who had served as the second unit helmer on Luca Guadagnino's last two feature-length films, Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria. And Filomarino's old boss even serves as producer on this film, a thriller set in Athens (and the Epirus region of Greece) that tells the story of a vacationing couple (Washington and Vikander) who fall prey to a violent conspiracy with tragic consequences.
The film is written by Kevin Rice and also features the onscreen talent of Vicky Krieps. No release date has been announced yet. Stay tuned!
