Movie Fact #65 - October 21st, 2020

For his 1992 film Candyman, director/writer Bernard Rose utilized hypnosis in his movie to work around what he saw as the cliché of excessive screaming in the horror films. Rose came up with the idea to have Virginia Madsen hypnotized in the scenes where she confronted the Candyman. This was accomplished through the use of a professional hypnotist who established a key word that Rose would use to put Madsen under a trancelike state. The process would occur prior to filming the scenes where Todd and Madsen interacted and would take roughly ten minutes to prepare. Stay tuned!
