Movie Fact #180 - March 31st, 2021

One of the few justifications for remakes is trying to approach something from the original film different or, optimistically, improve on something from it. Disney's 2015 live-action remake of their 1950 animated classic Cinderella demonstrated an example of this. One common criticism that the animated film often gets is that The Prince was a flat character in the original film with no real depth or development. The live-action remake, therefore, attempted to correct that issue by having Prince Kit (Played by Richard Madden) meet Cinderella (Played by Lily James) a little earlier before the ball to give him some characterization along with giving him a subplot where he has to get ready to become King soon because his ailing father is dying.

The result is a more developed character who simply isn't a cardboard cutout love interest to serve as wish fulfillment for Cinderella, but rather a man whose personal motivations explain his attraction to her and vice versa. Stay tuned!
