The title for the 1990 film Jacob's Ladder is actually a reference to the Biblical story of Jacob's Ladder, or the dream of a meeting place between Heaven and Earth (Genesis 28:12). Its also the little-known alternative title for Dante's Inferno, in a reference to Inferno by Dante Alighieri. This of course ties in the heavily religious undertones presented in the film.
