The 1991 film Enchanted April is based off the 1922 novel The Enchanted April, written by author Elizabeth von Arnim. Whether it was intentional or not, the film adaptation was shot on location at Castello Brown in Portofino, Italy. The castle just happens to be where the author of the book had stayed in the 1920's, potentially before the book was even written.
