1999's Election was shot in a real high school, that of Papillion-La Vista Senior High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Director Alexander Payne used this to his advantage to create a more realistic environment for the story. During filming in certain classrooms where scenes were being done, adjacent classrooms had real class going on. Even on the soundtrack, some background noises come from real teachers and students.
