Michael B. Jordan Explains Decision to Direct "Creed III"

It's a wonder what Creed III can even add to the larger franchise, but Michael B. Jordan seems supremely confident in recent interviews that there is a world to build on (although wasn't that world already built with the Rocky and first two Creed films?). But in any case, today in an interview with Esquire, Jordan explains why he chose to direct and how his experiences in the industry have helped prepare him for the task:

"It’s the only character that I’m coming back to play three times. It’s a world that I know. I know the process to shoot these movies. I know the character. And I have a clear vision of where I want the world to go. Everything kind of panned out for me to step behind the camera on this one, so I’m running towards it. And definitely a lot of knowledge and a lot of gems of wisdom and tips from everybody—from most recently Denzel [Washington], to Ryan, to David O. Russell, Ben Affleck, Stefano. I’ve been slowly learning. I’m a sponge, so I’m always learning from project to project, and it’s all been slowly preparing me for this moment."

There is almost nothing known about the third film's plot beyond the fact Sylvester Stallone has already confirmed Rocky Balboa won't be returning in Creed III which makes sense since Creed II saw Rocky go to Canada to reconnect with his son. So the new film probably won't have anything related to the past Rocky films as the first two Creed films did. What is known is that Zach Baylin and Keenan Coogler are writing the script with a tentative release date of November 23rd, 2022.
