On Instagram, writer/director James Gunn answered some fan questions and one of them was, of course, when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would begin filming. His response simply was "End of this year", confirming that the long-awaited third film in the GOTG series will begin production this Fall.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released way back in 2017 and while the culminating chapters of the Infinity Saga (Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame) were part of the delay. Gunn had also briefly been removed from directing the third GOTG after old Twitter posts surfaced of him making jokes about pedophilia. After some time apart and much of the GOTG cast standing behind Gunn, Disney reinstated Gunn into the role. However, Gunn recently said he thinks it will be his last GOTG film. During his exile from the MCU, Gunn directed The Suicide Squad (A semi-reboot of the 2016 film) for DC which perhaps gave him confidence he could get equal work elsewhere (and not be fired from it).
In any case, Gunn's third entry is a highly anticipated project and may spell the final MCU film for much of the GOTG cast. Hopefully, it will be quite the send-off. Stay tuned!
