Several new posters for 2023 films have been released at today's CinemaCon though the two big ones of note are that for the highly-anticipated fourth installment of the John Wick franchise along with the James Wan-directed horror film M3GAN. In addition, a poster for the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody (set for an award season release date of December 21st), has been released online.
John Wick 4 (2023)
Though a synopsis hasn't been released yet, John Wick 4 is expected to see the titular character continue his battle against the High Table after being portrayed by his former friend Winston (Ian McShane) in the previous film. Originally set for theatrical release on May 21st, 2021, the film was delayed partially because of COVID-19 and partially because Reeves needed to finish filming the fourth installment of The Matrix franchise. However, filming for John Wick 4 finally wrapped filming in October 2021. Now, promotion for the film is beginning with a large banner for the film at this year's CinemaCon. Check it out below:
John Wick 4 is once again directed by Chad Stahelski with a tentative release date set for March 24th, 2023.
M3GAN (2023)
Akela Cooper, Wan's writing partner for his 2021 throwback horror film Malignant (which many argued was a self-parody of the genre), is returning to serve as the sole screenwriter for Wan's next directorial effort, M3GAN.
Based on a story by Wan, the film will see Allison Williams (Get Out) star as a roboticist named Gemma who works at a toy company that uses artificial intelligence to develop a life-like doll programmed to be a kid’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally, M3GAN. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype – a decision that has unimaginable consequences.
The film will land in theaters early next year (January 13th, 2023). Check out the poster below:
I Wanna Dance With Somebody (2022)
A biopic we all saw coming, I Wanna Dance With Somebody will star Naomi Ackie in a film that will take a look throughout Houston's life. Ashton Sanders and Stanley Tucci will co-star as Houston's ex-husband/R&B singer Bobby Brown and Houston's producer Clive Davis, respectively. The film is written by Anthony McCarten who previously wrote the script for the 2018 Freddy Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Check out the first official poster for the film below:
I Wanna Dance with Somebody is directed by Kasi Lemmons and positions for the award season with a release date set for December 21st, 2022.
