A lot of films had to halt production in March and because of this, despite being originally for late 2020, most of them are getting shuffled to 2021. One of the more high-profile dramas is The Forgiven, based on the Lawrence Osborne novel of the same name. Leading it is the powerhouse talents of Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Chastain along with a massive supporting cast that includes Said Taghmaoui, Caleb Landry Jones, Matt Smith, Christopher Abbott, Ismael Kanater, Marie-Josée Croze, Alex Jennings, and Abbey Lee. The film has just wrapped up production by keeping to the new COVID-19 era safety policies that have been put into effect across the industry so countless projects can be finished. With The Forgiven completed, director John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary, War on Everyone) has spoken on the excitement of doing the adaptation of Osborne's novel:
“It gives us great pleasure to bring Lawrence Osborne’s masterpiece to the big screen, and to launch our company, House of Un-American Activities, with a film in the grand European tradition. Our international cast and crew persevered beyond the call of duty on this one, and we firmly believe that perseverance will be appreciated by audiences worldwide. With masks or without.”
As the quote teases, the story focuses on an Anglo-American couple and the effect that a random accident has on them, their friends, and local people at a desert villa in Morocco. Today, Focus Features, who will distribute the film although they have not given an official release date as of yet, have released a couple first look photos of the film. Check them out below:
