News of the World may be seeing the reunion of director Paul Greengrass with his Captain Phillips star Tom Hanks, but the film couldn't be more opposite to their previous collaboration. And the first TV spot has been released today, though the TV spot advertises that a full trailer will debut soon:
Based on Paulette Jiles' 2016 Western novel of the same name, Hanks plays a widowed Civil War veteran who agrees to deliver a girl hundreds of miles, against her will, to her aunt and uncle after she was taken by the Kiowa people years ago. While it's highly unlikely this film will land on it's set release date of December 25th, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has made theater releases very uncertain, Vanity Fair has released a couple first look photos, particularly depicting Hanks as his character Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd and Helena Zengel as the kidnapped girl, Johanna Leonberger. Check the photos out below:
It's possible the film will still see a release given it's been considered an award contender since it was first announced. Greengrass also co-wrote the script with Luke Davies. The film will also star the talents of Elizabeth Marvel. Stay tuned!
