First Look: Netflix's "The Dig"

The Dig may seem like another Netflix film, but it's composed of a fine cast, particularly embodied through Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, and Lily James. Not to mention, the fourth lead actor is Johnny Flynn who will be playing David Bowie in the upcoming film Stardust, whose trailer came out this morning (See it here). The Dig happens to also be a true story.

The film is based on John Preston's 2007 novel of the same name, set in the context of the 1939 Anglo-Saxon ship burial excavation at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, England. Preston just happens to be the nephew of Peggy Piggott who was one of the excavators and from where he got the historical context for the original novel. While Piggott is featured in the film, played by Lily James, the story primarily follows Edith Pretty (Played by Mulligan), a wealthy widow who hires amateur archaeologist Basil Brown (Played by Fiennes) to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. When they make a historic discovery, the echoes of Britain’s past resonate in the face of its uncertain future‎ as WWII looms.

While the film has no release date on the streaming service, it's only a matter of time as today we have a gallery of first look photos for the film. Released by Netflix who promise the film is "coming soon": Check them out below:

Stay tuned!
