First Look: Netflix's "Pacific Rim: The Black"

It's perhaps appropriate that Guillermo del Toro‘s 2013 sci-fi action blockbuster film Pacific Rim (We won't speak of the sequel), will next appear as an anime given it was that form of media that inspired the live-action franchise to begin with. Whether it was Gundam Wing or Robotech or even Zoids, Japanese animation has often dealt with humans controlling large machines as a way to confront nature of the world or of the human psyche. So, if you liked the influences of Pacific Rim but felt it wasn't captured well, you'll be happy to know Pacific Rim: The Black, the name of the anime being worked on. And today we have two photos that focus on the cockpit of a Jaeger (Name of the mechas that humans pilot in the franchise) and one of the Kaiju (Name of the monsters that attack). Check them out below:

Created by Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson, the anime will premiere in Netflix in 2021 and has been confirmed for at least a two season run. Little has been confirmed about the story although the photo of the Jaeger's cockpit seems to confirm the earlier teased premise of the story focusing on an idealistic teen boy and his naïve younger sister who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. These two are likely those characters. However, we probably won't get a confirmation of the specifics of the story until the first trailer premieres. Stay tuned!
