When it comes to long-term horror franchises, The Conjuring franchise probably would be considered one of the more prestigious among the bunch. The main films in the series have been well-received along with a majority of the encircling spin-offs such as the Annabelle trilogy being well-liked. Even with The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona being not as well-received, those were quite liked among fans as well. There is a lot of anticipation coming for the third main film in the series, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It that will see Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as professional paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they take on the real-life case of Arne Johnson, the first person to claim demonic possession as a motive for manslaughter. And today we have some official photos for the film which you can check out below:
Notably the third film will be the first in the main series of films not to deal with a haunted house scenario with the film also being the first of the main series not to be directed by James Wan, instead seeing The Curse of La Llorona director Michael Chaves take the helm of the third main installment. However, Wan still very much was involved in the creative process and explained why they moved out of the common structure of the first two films:
“I really wanted The Conjuring 3 to really get away from the haunted house set-up of the first two films. It should be more on a whole different level. Something we’ve never explored before in the Conjuring world.”
Producer Peter Safran also added in why they decided to approach the third film with a courtroom drama setting:
“We wanted to keep our new story grounded in the feel of Conjuring movies, but we wanted to make sure we were telling a brand new story. We thought the Arne Johnson story was something that deserved a much closer look.”
And, as a major bonus for hardcore fans of the franchise, Warner Bros. has released a 30 minute documentary focused on the franchise as a whole, titled "The Conjuring: Faith and Fear". However, it also features some footage from the upcoming The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Check it out below:
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It co-stars Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard. It is set to be released in theaters June 4th, 2021, delayed after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the studio move it from it's original September 11th, 2020 date. Stay tuned!
