The finality of the title The Last Duel strongly implies the obvious climax to come in Ridley Scott's upcoming historical epic that is based on the true story of the last legal duel in France between a knight and his squire who has been accused by the knight's wife of raping her. Scott, a master of his craft, is aware of the trajectory of the story as much as the audience is, therefore it's no surprise to find, in an extended clip released by 20th Century Studios, that the opening scene in fact is that duel before an inevitable rewind to reveal how the story came to such a tumultuous moment.
The movie will no doubt delve into the politics and patriarchy of the times where tensions will build, culminating in the titular duel. As the clip shows, it will not be without it's pulse-pounding moments:
The Last Duel stars Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck. It is set to be released in theaters on October 15th.
Ridley Scott is still making films? Sad. I bet an Alien shows up at the end.
Woke movie
