It's been talked about recently by Sylvester Stallone and now it's official. Following a seven year gap since the last installment, a fourth Expendables is officially in the works over at Lionsgate and Millenium Media. Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, released the following statement:
“We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Millennium Media for the next installment of the Expendables franchise. It’s so much fun to bring these stars together for a no-holds-barred action film. The new film will raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet.”
Stallone is set to return alongside the franchise's mainstay co-stars Jason Statham, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren (No word on Terry Crews or Jet Li). In addition, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, and Tony Jaa are joining the new film. In relation to this cast list, Millennium Media President Jeffrey Greenstein had this to say:
The Expendables are back, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring this star-studded, action-packed film to the big screen with Lionsgate, who have been with us since the inception of this franchise. To keep it fresh and fun, we’ve added exciting new stars to join the veterans; popcorn entertainment is guaranteed."
Scott Waugh (Act of Valor, Need for Speed) is set to direct from a script by Spenser Cohen (which had revisions by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly). Production is expected to begin this Fall. No official release date has been given at this time. Stay tuned!
