One of the most anticipated films for the upcoming award season is easily that of director Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation of author William Lindsay Gresham's 1946 novel Nightmare Alley, the second following the classic 1947 film that starred Tyrone Power. However, unlike that film, Del Toro seems ready to dive further into a more dream-like experience, even though there are scenes in the first teaser trailer released today that are reminiscent of the 1947 film. Something the official teaser poster emphasizes in the shadowed image of the lead character:
Even still, Del Toro seems committed to leave his own distinct mark on the source material (with a script he co-wrote with Kim Morgan). The synopsis is as follows:
Stan Carlisle (Played by Bradley Cooper), an ambitious carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words, hooks up with Dr. Lilith Ritter (Played by Cate Blanchett), a psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is.
Check out the official teaser trailer below:
Nightmare Alley co-stars Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, and David Strathairn. It is set to be released in theaters on December 17th.
Hopefully better than that poop fiesta that won the Oscar.
