Clip: "Star Trek: Lower Decks" Reveals Kirk and Spock cameo

While a lot of the new Star Trek spin-offs are considered by some hardcore Trekkies as almost blasphemy to the older shows, strangely the comedic animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks has gotten much praise for it's very deep understanding of the canon as well as the numerous Easter eggs that help it fit in the larger Star Trek mythos. This despite the fact the show follows the lower deck crews of the USS Cerritos (deemed the least important ship in the fleet). One such example was pointed out today in an exclusive clip from the first season's home media bonus features.

The clip hails from the featurette titled "Hiding in Plain Sight" that gives an inside look at the canon and Easter eggs hidden throughout the series and features commentary by Jack Quaid (who voices Ensign Bradward Boimler) who reveals a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo by Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock from Star Trek: The Original Series. Check it out below:

Season 2 is gearing up to be released on Paramount+ in August. Season 1 is available now on DVD, Blu-Ray, and a limited steelbook edition. In addition to the "Hiding in Plain Sight" feature, the special features include the Lower Decktionary exploring the secrets of all 10 season 1 episodes, the trailer for Crisis Point: The Rise of Vindicta, and Faces of the Fleet (a deep-dive into the crew of the USS Cerritos. Stay tuned!
