Chastain to Play Tammy Wynette in Limited Series

Following a slew of big screen actors who have transitioned to television (Where stories are being offered with richer layers), Jessica Chastain is confirmed to be playing country music legend Tammy Wynette in the limited series George & Tammy for Spectrum Originals, Paramount Network, and CBS All Access. Spectrum will have the series exclusively for nine months, after which it will stream on the rebranded CBS All Access while Paramount Network will be the linear home for the series after the Spectrum window expires.

Chastain was actually already set to play the role a few years ago when it was in development as a feature for Fox Searchlights. Based on the biographical book The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, which was written by Tammy's daughter Georgette Jones, the series will chronicle the country music power couple of Wynette and George Jones. Their complicated relationship inspired some of the most iconic music of all time.

The series is the creation of Abe Sylvia (Netflix's Dead to Me) who will also executive produce the series alongside Chastain, Andrew Lazar, Bryan Goluboff, David Glasser, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Josh Brolin. Brolin was previously attached to play George Jones in the feature film as recently as last year. No word if he'll take up the role for the limited series. Stay tuned!
