One of Korean director Bong Joon Ho's first recognized films internationally was the 2006 monster flick The Host. And while he's gone on to Oscar glory with his most recent film Parasite (which took home Best Picture last year at the Academy Awards), along with a slew of hits beforehand (Notably Snowpiercer and Mother), he still seems determined to do interesting projects. Point-in-case, today one of his next projects to be about about humans and deep-water sea creatures. And, as a first for the director, it will be an animated film.
Reports indicate Joon Ho finished writing the script for the untitled project back in January, after working on it since 2018 with the Korean company 4th Creative Party, a visual effects company that worked on Bong's previous films Snowpiercer, Okja, and Mother. He's expected to do this film after he directs an English-language film to be set between the U.K. and the U.S. Nothing else has been released about the project, but it seems to be one Joon Ho has been brewing for some time. A passion project, in fact...which often lead to some of the best films! Stay tuned!
