A Batgirl film has been in development hell for sometime, at one point being in development with Joss Whedon writing/directing the project. Now, it seems to be in full motion, set to be the first DC film adaptation to directly premiere on HBO Max. It's still early in development with the film being based on a script written by Christina Hodson while Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) are at the helm. All that's missing is...well Batgirl. And it sounds like they are closing in on their actress.
It's been confirmed today a list of the top contenders for the role. Right now, it's a four-way competition between Leslie Grace (In the Heights), Haley Lu Richardson (Five Feet Apart), Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) and Zoey Deutch (Zombieland: Double Tap). Whoever is chosen will play Barbara Gordon just as she dons the mask of Batgirl while dealing with the issues that brings...given her father is Commissioner James Gordon. Stay tuned!
