Comedy Central seems determined to recapture the glory days. Not only have they given out series orders to revivals of Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head along with Lord & Miller's Clone High and a Daria spin-off series titled Jodie, but now it's been confirmed that they are working on an adult-animated reboot of Nickelodeon’s 1990's animated sitcom The Ren & Stimpy Show. That is somewhat of an irony as, despite the original playing on a children's network, the original show that ran from 1991 to 1995 already contained dark humor that made many see it as an adult series to begin with. So how much more mature will this version get?
A highly explicit reboot was already attempted by Spike TV which was both poorly received and short-lived as a result. While this new version looks set to follow the same basic premise, the pairing of an emotionally unstable Chihuahua and a kind yet dimwitted cat, it's unsure how it will adjust to a more mature tone. In any case, this is all part of the network’s continued effort of creating new content for adult-focused animation. Soon enough, it will be seen how successful this is. Stay tuned!
