Alan Ritchson has been in the business for some time. Some know him from his earlier roles as Aquaman in Smallville and Thad in Blue Mountain State before playing one of the contestants in the first The Hunger Games film and more recently he played Hawk in the DC live-action show Titans. However, Ritchson is about to get his biggest break, taking on the title role in Amazon's upcoming Jack Reacher TV series.
Fans of the book series written by Lee Child will be happy to know Ritchson is more close to the distinguishing height of the literary character, moreso than Tom Cruise who played the character in two big screen adaptations (Of which this series will be unrelated). While Reacher is meant to be 6'5", Cruise was only 5'10", but Ritchson is 6'3". The first season of this new adaptation will be based on the first novel in the series – 1997's Killing Floor. If the show keeps to this idea of adapting a single novel for each season, the show has enough material to run for over 25 seasons (Not including the short stories and novellas involving the character). With a novel series that has sold over 100 million copies to date, it's not impossible to see it lasting long-term.
Amazon Studios, Skydance Television, and Paramount Television Studios are backing the project with creator Nick Santora (Scorpion) serving as writer and showrunner. Santora was announced 4 days ago to be also serving as showrunner and creator of an untitled spy show starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (See that announcement here). Child himself will serve as executive producer alongside Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Christopher McQuarrie, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross.
